Similar to other action sports, in snowboarding, “firsts” carry weight. They’re markers of progression, bragging rights, and often the spark that opens the floodgates for others to follow. But in women’s snowboarding—especially in the streets and backcountry—many of those firsts were never properly documented or celebrated. Unlike contests, where results are archived and footage is easier to find, a lot of these milestones happened quietly, without cameras rolling or media taking note.
While digging for facts for their upcoming documentary, Tomboy Media quickly realized there was no master list. No central archive. So… we made one. We use the term "first" lightly. Its more so a unoffical list of moments caught on film that made a difference.
In an effort to fill that gap, we’ve pulled together this totally unofficial, only partially verified, and definitely incomplete list of some of the most impactful “firsts” in women’s snowboarding.
It’s a best guess based on what we’ve seen, heard, and pieced together—and we know there’s more out there. If we missed something (or got something wrong), we want to hear about it.
This is meant to be a living document, updated as we learn more. Because snowboarding history is still being written—and we want to make sure this part gets remembered.
